Local Authorities
Local Footprints offers training, support and advice to councils across Scotland wishing to tackle area-wide emissions and global environmental impact of their policies and plans.
Councils Using the Footprint Approach
Several local authorities in Scotland have already used the footprint approach.
Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and North Lanarkshire Councils were the first in Scotland to pilot using the footprint approach. Download their footprint reports below:

Visit the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils pages for further information on their approach to footprint work.
South Lanarkshire Council used thefootprint scenarios to analyse and inform development briefs for new homes built in community growth areas. Download the South Lanarkshire Community Growth Areas Footprint Report. The council is also one of the Local Footprints Exemplars - visit the South Lanarkshire Council Exemplar Project page for more information.

We have developed the following guides and briefings to help councils and community planning partnerships to use the footprint approach.

Exemplar Projects
The Local Footprints Service of the Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) is working with three council and community planning partner exemplar projects in 2010. SSN provides dedicated support and assistance to these projects in order that they use carbon and ecological footprint analysis to improve reduce the environmental impact of policies and to improve public engagement with sustainable development issues.
The three prjoects selected include 5 councils - Clackmannanshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, and a joint proposal from East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothain Councils.
SSN and the councils have agreed a work plan and councils across Scotland are invited to shadow the projects. SSN will share and disseminate project lessons through the SSN network and beyond. Exemplars will receive support from Local Footprints from 1st March to 30th September 2010.
